Back Pain Treatment

Penticton Physiotherapy

Low back pain is the most common problem we treat in our clinic

Everyday, our team of therapists all treat people living in Penticton who are struggling with low back pain. Low back pain will affect most people at some point in their life, and can come and go over time without any reason or rhyme, or obvious cause.

It’s very normal for people who have low back pain to think it will just go away by itself with rest, or it will be gone in the morning, but unfortunately, we have found this is often not the case and that not taking steps to treat the underlaying problem actually makes it worse it, and leads to further issues and pain down the line.

Does this sound like you?

If you are experiencing low back pain which leaves you feeling stiff and achy when you wake up in the morning or sit down for too long, or causes you significant pain when you move around, it’s easy to try and ‘rest up’ and take some pain medication to try and help the problem – but this is rarely the best advice and often you can end up feeling worse, or with protracted pain symptoms over months and years.

Often, our patients tell us that they ‘slept funny’ or lifted something that they shouldn’t, but back pain is rarely that simple and is often an accumulation of different things coming together at the same time, often including muscles around your low back becoming stiff, tight and weak from years of sitting at a desk at work. What may feel like it was caused by a certain sleeping position or lifting is actually the effect of an accumulation of years of low back muscles becoming weak and tight, and can cause significant pain and distress.

How can I get rid of my back pain?

Most people who suffer from back pain believe it will just go away by itself, but unfortunately it can develop into a chronic problem which is either always there to some degree, or comes and goes every few months or years.

The key to resolving your back pain is to make a decision to get help. It’s human nature to procrastinate on things like this, but very often low back pain can be improved when your work with the right people and have the right treatment completed.

Come in and work with one of our physiotherapists, who will complete a thorough assessment of your low back and hips, and will begin a hands-on treatment plan which is specific to you and your problem.

Complete a course of treatment, and learn the right exercises to do at home. There is a lot of information online about different exercise routines and how to manage low back pain, but nothing is better then receiving the right exercises from a professional who has assessed you.

How we help relieve your back pain

First of all, it is imperative to get an accurate diagnosis of what is causing your back pain. Our physiotherapists can help diagnosis the underlaying problem, which in turn allows us to accurately target the affected muscles, nerves or joints.

Our physiotherapists use a variety of different treatment techniques to help treat your back pain, including hands-on therapy, IMS/ Dry Needling, Shockwave Therapy and exercise.

All of these treatments are evidence based and used by all of our physiotherapists daily to help treat people in Penticton who have back pain.

Reasons to see one of our physiotherapists if you have low back pain

  • Quite often, your low back pain and stiffness can be alleviated and relieved quickly, frequently within 2-3 sessions.
  • We can help you find out the underlaying cause of your back pain – and in doing so, help to keep it at bay over the long term.
  • Low back pain often affects your ability to sleep, which in turn causes more pain and slows down healing – decreased pain can lead to better sleep, and a better recovery.
  • Learn appropriate and efficient exercises, which are tailored to you and your situation, to help manage your back pain long term.
  • No one enjoys taking medications or having to undergo surgery, and completing a course of treatment which is specific to you and your situation can often avoid you having to do so
  • Low back pain can frequently stop you doing what you love to do, and our goal is to get you back at it again, and living your best life!

Basically, we can help you get back to living your best life without back pain getting in your way of what you love to do

Testimonials

I’ve been seeing Chris for physio on and off over the past few years and couldn’t recommend him more highly. With a job that involves a lot of sitting—and after tackling yard projects—I often deal with tightness in my hips and lower back. Chris consistently provides clear, practical guidance along with effective exercises and techniques I can use both at home and at work. His support has made a big difference. Highly recommend Chris and this clinic!

Very professional and definitely helping a complete herniated disc issue. It’s been 3 months but I am on the good side of recovery! Trevor is highly recommended for being clear and concise and explaining the issues and how to resolve. Very pleasant office staff as well!

Where do I begin… I can not thank Alex enough for sorting out my horrific lower back pain. From my initial visit to this day Alex has been an absolute rock star to work with! After just one session of IMS my back was already feeling better. I will continue to come here and I am so thankful for finding Alex. As a nurse you have made a huge difference in how I move and take care of my body! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I will never take movement for granted again.

I came to Penticton Physiotherapy with many injuries. I’ve had multiple car accidents and life has been challenging to say the least. I am very pleased with the results I am seeing so far… Catherine’s understanding of the body and muscle groups just amazes me. Day by day I see progress with the at home exercises I am given and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you!

I have been struggling with persistent lower back pain for over 9 months. The pain was so bothersome that it kept me up at night, and I was relying on pain medications. I tried seeing different chiropractors and RMTs, but nothing seemed to fully help. Thankfully, I found Penticton Physio & IMS Clinic, and the results have been life-changing. After just three sessions of IMS therapy and physiotherapy, my back pain is completely gone. I’m now able to sleep through the night, work comfortably, and enjoy my hobbies pain-free! The team at this clinic is professional, knowledgeable, and truly cares about their patients. I feel like myself again, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Highly recommend!
